LONG BEACH \u2013 A new year hasn\u2019t stopped the same shootings from occuring in Long Beach as the City gears up activity to host some events for the 2028 Olympic games.<\/p>\n
The most recent shooting involved a high school student who was injured in an off-campus shooting on Thursday in Long Beach, and police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.<\/p>\n
The student, who attends Long Beach Polytechnic High School, was shot about 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Long Beach Boulevard and 17th Street, a Long Beach Unified School District spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n
He arrived at the school shortly afterward and was taken to a hospital by emergency responders, according to the district.<\/p>\n
The school at 1600 Atlantic Ave. is two blocks from the shooting location.<\/p>\n
School staff rendered support and first aid to the student before he was transported.<\/p>\n
The extent of his injury was unclear.<\/p>\n
The school \u201cremains safe,\u201d with school security maintaining an increased campus presence as a precaution, according to the district.<\/p>\n
Long Beach police were investigating.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur thoughts are with the student and his family as they focus on recovery,\u201d according to a district statement.<\/p>\n
