Passion, disruption and energy. That is what Thursday\u2019s Long Beach STOP ICE TERROR emergency protest brought into the late-night hours.\u00a0<\/p>\n

PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation) Long Beach organized the protest late Wednesday, hours after a legal observer, Renee Nicole Good, was shot and killed by an Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Hundreds of people gathered in front of City Hall with picket signs, horns and drums. The protest began with multiple speakers from PSL Long Beach chanting with the protestors, \u201cNicole Good, say her name, ICE kills with no shame!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I saw the news about Renee Nicole Good being murdered in broad daylight, that really moved me and it gave me a pause because I know my fellow organizers are out on the streets just like Renee was,\u201d said Bianca Carrillo, organizer for PSL Long Beach. \u201cI just thought, you know, that could be any of us. That was very eye-opening and it fuels my drive to change things, to change the system even more.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carrillo suggested that Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson and all local officials take a stand against ICE at a minimum, but also ban all cooperation with ICE.<\/p>\n

\u201cICE is staying at hotels, not only in Long Beach but all across California, across Los Angeles, so we really want accountability,\u201d Carillo said. \u201cThey\u2019re not helping anyone. They\u2019re making things worse. They\u2019re ripping families apart, they\u2019re kidnapping people and they\u2019re not acting according to law.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

There was one counter-protester who was live-streaming on his phone during the event and heckling protestors. Protesters went to confront him as he walked to the local police. Long Beach resident Milo Nelson was there during the tense situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMe and my friends were here nearby the man with the microphone over the main protest and we saw him run by and then we saw him run across the street [and] go to the police,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cWe just kind of screamed at him a little bit until he ran inside and cowered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Soon after the demonstration and vigil, protestors began marching toward the Hilton hotel near Pine Avenue around 8:30 p.m. As they began walking down the hill, the Long Beach Police Department parked their cars and lined up with batons in hand. Long Beach Police used a remote speaker to encourage the crowd to turn back to where they were from.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Protestors then circled back toward the Hilton Hotel by Ocean Boulevard and Golden Avenue.\u00a0The protestors soon descended with signs in hand and whistles in their mouths. Disruptions echoed in the lobby inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some began to bang on windows outside the hotel, calling attention to the men who were seated in the Hilton Hotel as others were standing by the window. Accusations arose that the men inside were federal officials, though it was unclear if they were. Protestors then marched back to City Hall and gave final speeches with those who stayed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another protest<\/a> is planned by PSL Long Beach on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. in front of Long Beach City Hall against the kidnapping of former Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro and ICE terror across the U.S.<\/p>\n
