Dozens of passengers were stuck on the Disneyland monorail on Thursday, Jan. 8, due to a power outage<\/p>\n

There were no injuries from the incident<\/p>\n

Disneyland’s monorail opened in 1959 and was the first method of transportation of its kind in the country<\/p>\n

A power outage caused dozens of Disneyland<\/a> monorail passengers to make a lengthy unplanned stop.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Jan. 8, 60 people got stuck on the park’s monorail near the Space Mountain ride. Per CBS News Los Angeles<\/a>, the outage occurred in the late afternoon and affected two trains.<\/p>\n

First responders came to the rescue around 5 p.m., according to KTLA<\/a>, and brought two ladders close to the park’s entrance where the trains had lost power.<\/p>\n

Between the time first responders arrived to the scene and everyone was removed from the monorail, the evacuation took two hours. A park visitor told KTLA that the outage happened around 3:30 that afternoon.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Anaheim Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that a mechanical issue caused the power outage and that there were no injuries from the incident.<\/p>\n

PEOPLE reached out to Disneyland Resort and did not receive an immediate response.<\/p>\n

Power outages have frequently been the cause of riders becoming stranded on amusement park attractions in the past. Eleven people were stuck on the Transformers ride at Universal Studios Hollywood<\/a>\u00a0in April 2022. One of the park’s Harry Potter rides was also affected in the same incident.<\/p>\n

In January 2023, a 400-ft tall ferris wheel at Orlando’s ICON Park left dozens of riders stuck for hours after a power failure. Over 80 firefighters responded to the call, and the rescue operation took three hours.<\/p>\n

Disneyland monorail<\/p>\n

Disneyland’s monorail is a historic transportation system that connects the park. The zero-emission train spans 2.5 miles and takes riders on a 13-minute round-trip journey, per the park’s website<\/a>. The trains run every 10 minutes and is open every day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.<\/p>\n

The monorail passes by Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Buena Vista Street, Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure Park, Disney\u2019s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Downtown Disney District, among other stops.<\/p>\n

It opened in 1959, four years after the park opened, and was the first daily transportation system of its kind in the country. It has two boarding stations: at Tomorrowland inside of Disneyland Park, and in the Downtown Disney District near the Disneyland Hotel.<\/p>\n
