LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) – Residents at Equal Steps Veterans Home in Long Beach are looking for a new place to live after being abruptly told they had to be out of the building.<\/p>\n
At least 17 veterans who live at the home got the news on Saturday that they had to be out of the facility by Monday. <\/p>\n
Some family members of the veterans showed up Saturday afternoon, concerned about the care their loved ones were receiving and trying to figure out where they would go on such short notice.<\/p>\n
Annette Jackson, a loved one of one of the home\u2019s residents, said she is very concerned for those who live there.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey said these people have to be gone somewhere by Monday,\u201d Jackson said. \u201cToday is Saturday. We got so many females and males in here that need help.\u201d<\/p>\n
Equal Steps Veterans Home rents a building on Church Avenue, and Buddy Hall is that building\u2019s property manager. <\/p>\n
He said several members of the medical staff left due to allegations of fraud made against the Executive Director.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very sad because she had a good heart,\u201d Hall said. \u201cShe said to take care of veterans. But all the stories we\u2019re hearing of scamming the veterans isn\u2019t the proper way to treat veterans,\u201d <\/p>\n
Multiple ambulances were called to transport the veterans to a hospital to ensure they received proper care for the time being. <\/p>\n
