Four-time nominee Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet bagged his first Golden Globe Award for his critically acclaimed performance in Josh Safdie\u2019s \u201cMarty Supreme,\u201d<\/a> which follows a plucky young New Yorker as he claws (and swindles) his way to table tennis superstardom. <\/p>\n Chalamet thanked Safdie, the cast, his parents and his partner, Kylie Jenner, although he didn\u2019t name her, as he accepted his award Sunday evening. <\/p>\n \u201cThis category is stacked. I look up to all of you,\u201d Chalamet addressed his competitors onstage.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you would have told me when I was 19 years old that I\u2019d be thanking Mr. Wonderful from \u2018Shark Tank\u2019 \u2014 all right, you\u2019re laughing, so I got away with that, thank you Kevin,\u201d the winner quipped about Kevin O\u2019Leary. \u201cI would have been stunned, but I\u2019m very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n Chalamet beat out competitors Leonardo DiCaprio (\u201cOne Battle After Another\u201d), George Clooney, (\u201cJay Kelly\u201d), Ethan Hawke, (\u201cBlue Moon\u201d), Lee Byung-hun (\u201cNo Other Choice\u201d) and Jesse Plemons (\u201cBugonia\u201d) in the stacked male actor in a motion picture \u2014 musical or comedy category.<\/p>\n The New York-born actor\u2019s Golden Globe win comes after four prior nominations, including for roles in Luca Guadagnino\u2019s \u201cCall Me by Your Name\u201d (2018) and James Mangold\u2019s \u201cA Complete Unknown\u201d (2025). After his breakout performance in Guadagnino\u2019s queer coming-of-age film, Chalamet embarked on a meteoric rise that has secured him a major movie nearly every year since.<\/p>\n This awards cycle, Chalamet has also notched a Critics Choice Award and an Actor Award nomination for his performance in \u201cMarty Supreme.\u201d<\/p>\n Boosted by a splashy promotional tour that included an underground table tennis tournament<\/a> and a stunt at the Sphere<\/a> in Las Vegas, \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d opened to $27 million at the box office, the biggest in indie studio A24\u2019s history. (The film reportedly<\/a> had a $60 million-$70 million budget.)<\/p>\n At the center of the publicity storm was Chalamet himself, who told IndieWire<\/a> last month that his efforts were \u201cin the spirit of Marty.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI feel like this is ultimately an original film at a time when original movies aren\u2019t really put out. It\u2019s a movie about the pursuit of a dream. I\u2019m leaving it on the field,\u201d Chalamet said. <\/p>\n \u201cWhether it\u2019s the merch or the Zoom or the media appearances, I\u2019m trying to get this out in the biggest way possible,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n Safdie said Chalamet\u2019s commitment was evident on the set of \u201cMarty Supreme.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTimmy was very generous. He sometimes did 26 takes,\u201d the director told GQ<\/a> last month, dubbing the young actor \u201cTimmy Supreme.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d is Safdie\u2019s first feature film in six years \u2014 \u201cUncut Gems,\u201d which he co-directed with his brother Benny, was released in 2019 \u2014 and the first he\u2019s solo-directed since 2008. <\/p>\n In addition to Chalamet, the film stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A\u2019zion (\u201cI Love L.A.\u201d), Kevin O\u2019Leary (\u201cShark Tank\u201d), Tyler, the Creator and others. <\/p>\n
