BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 One person died after a deputy-involved shooting in Lake Isabella after deputies were called to reports of a person firing a gun early Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
The Kern County Sheriff\u2019s Office said on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at around 1:40 a.m., deputies assigned to the Kern Valley Substation responded to area of Kilbreth Avenue and Lake Isabells Boulevard for reports of a person, identified as a male, firing a handgun.<\/p>\n
KCSO said deputies made contact with the suspect, who left to the area of Highway 178, where a deputy-involved shooting happened.<\/p>\n
Deputies rendered medical aid. Medical personnel arrived. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the suspect will be released at a later date.<\/p>\n
Homicide detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation.<\/p>\n
In a release, it said, “Kern County Sheriff’s Office detectives investigate any use of deadly force by any member of the department. Investigations are submitted to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for criminal review.”<\/p>\n
KCSO said further information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.<\/p>\n
