Cari McCaskill first got a GEICO policy in 2014. For over ten years, she said, there were no issues. That was until May 2, when she got into a crash while taking her 12-year-old daughter and her daughter\u2019s friend to pick up food. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe car came around, going about 40 or 5,0 trying to get around traffic and t-boned us,\u201d McCaskill said. <\/p>\n
She then submitted a claim, which included the police report. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe police report listed my child and her friend in the car,\u201d McCaskill said. \u201cI had to list that on the claim. The process went as it normally does.\u201d<\/p>\n
She was told the car was totaled and was worth upward of $25,000. <\/p>\n
Weeks went by, and she says she couldn\u2019t get any information about the claim. <\/p>\n
\u201cI tried to log in to my app and wasn\u2019t able to log in,\u201d McCaskill said. <\/p>\n
Then, she got this letter in the mail. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt was letting me know that the claim had again been reviewed and they were not going to pay out the claim and they were canceling out my policy, retroactive to the last renewal date,\u201d McCaskill said. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd their reasoning was, because?\u201d Local 4 asked. <\/p>\n
\u201cBecause I had not listed my then 12-year-old, at the time, daughter, who doesn\u2019t drive, who is not a driver, on the personal injury protection attestation,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Her attorney, Chris Camper, says she didn\u2019t hear anything from GEICO until she was served with papers. <\/p>\n
After the accident, her daughter\u2019s friend went to the doctor just to get checked out. Camper says GEICO asked the girl\u2019s mother if she was getting care and, if so, where. <\/p>\n

GEICO\u2019s complaint is addressed to both McCaskill and that doctor\u2019s office, saying GEICO has no duty to pay any collision or personal injury benefits because McCaskill did not list her daughter. <\/p>\n
But the doctor\u2019s office isn\u2019t trying to get GEICO to cover any cost of care, and Camper says they didn\u2019t file an answer to the complaint.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaking her basically feel as though she\u2019s done something wrong and that she may be stuck with a $25,000 or $26,000 lease,\u201d Camper said. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt kind of felt like being thrown away,\u201d McCaskill said. \u201cI get it\u2019s a company, but I did my part.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we stated last week: \u2018GEICO complies with all state insurance regulations regarding claims and coverage.\u2019 We are unable to comment on pending litigation,\u201d GEICO said in response to Local 4. <\/p>\n
Local 4 also reached out to the specific lawyers representing GEICO in this case, but have not heard back.<\/p>\n
