The San Jose Sharks have recalled defenseman Luca Cagnoni and placed Shakir Mukhamadullin on injured reserve. <\/p>\n
Mukhamadullin suffered an upper-body injury<\/a> during practice this last week and won\u2019t accompany the Sharks on their four-game road trip. <\/p>\n Cagnoni had a strong showing in his second San Jose Sharks training camp, but ultimately didn\u2019t make the roster. Scroll to continue reading.<\/p>\n After finishing with 52 points (16 goals, 36 assists) in 64 games in 2024-25, Cagnoni earned first-team All-Rookie honors<\/a> for the AHL. <\/p>\n The Sharks have struggled to be connected, especially on breakouts. Cagnoni slots in to this roster as the best puck-mover, with Sam Dickinson following close behind. <\/p>\n Dickinson had his best game of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, paired with Vincent Desharnais. With that pair being fairly consistent, Cagnoni could play with the newest Sharks blue liner, Vincent Iorio<\/a>.<\/p>\n Iorio is a big right-handed d-man, just like Desharnais, which is something coach Ryan Warsofsky has wanted to pair with Cagnoni in the past. <\/p>\n Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/p>\n Let the kids cook<\/p>\n A 0-3-2 start to the San Jose Sharks\u2019 season wasn\u2019t what anyone in the organization wanted. Now, with injuries already piling up on the back end, it is time for the Sharks to change the foundation of the roster.<\/p>\n The Sharks signed a lot of veteran defenseman, but with John Klingberg<\/a> hurt and Nick Leddy<\/a> struggling, playing Dickinson and Cagnoni in higher roles is needed.<\/p>\n Cagnoni has played well on the top power play unit, whether in preseason or during his six NHL games last season. There is no reason not to slot him back in that spot this time around. <\/p>\n Dickinson has begun to get looks on the Sharks\u2019 second power play unit and likely will continue to do so. The Sharks\u2019 message to Dickinson before Friday\u2019s game was to use his offensive skillset more. <\/p>\n Advertisement. He\u2019s got to use it. That was good to see.\u201d<\/p>\n Cagnoni has rightfully focused on his defense, but he can push the offensive tape more than Dickinson, given that this season marks his second in professional hockey.<\/p>\n The Sharks are flying to New York on Sunday and will hold a practice on Monday.
