After rounds of voting and months of waiting, Long Beach residents can start creating cheers for the city\u2019s new baseball team: the Long Beach Coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, the team will also be using \u201cthe Regulators\u201d as an alter ego, ensuring team co-owner Warren G\u2019s \u201cRegulate\u201d anthem remains an essential part of the team\u2019s identity. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe get the best of both worlds,\u201d said Mayor Rex Richardson.<\/p>\n

Richardson made the announcement at the State of the City Tuesday evening, along with plenty of other news regarding tourism, jobs and more. The naming process began with a contest where over 1,300 people sent in their ideas to the Long Beach Baseball Club in September, followed by a voting period in October where over 4,000 people chose their favorite.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Long Beach Coast and the Regulators alter ego came out on top over the runner-up option: the Long Beach Parrots. <\/p>\n

With the name finally revealed, the Long Beach Coast are another step closer to its season opener May 19. A season schedule<\/a> is posted on the team\u2019s website, with games through Aug. 30.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The team named former Anaheim Angels player Troy Percival as the team manager in November and held tryouts shortly after, though no signed players have been announced at this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Coast will be the 13th team to join the Pioneer Baseball League, and will compete against cities like Oakland, Boise and Modesto. When the season starts, fans can watch Long Beach\u2019s professional baseball team play at Blair Field.\u00a0<\/p>\n
