I commend the attorney general for filing this lawsuit to prevent any further harm (<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2026-01-08\/california-sues-trump-admin-over-10-billion-freeze-in-childcare-funds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cCalifornia sues Trump administration over \u2018baseless and cruel\u2019 freezing of child-care funds,\u201d<\/a> Jan. 8).<\/p>\n<p>A blanket funding freeze for blue states doesn\u2019t punish one political party \u2014 it punishes the millions of real children, families and child-care providers who will pay the price. According to an analysis by the <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epi.org\/child-care-costs-in-the-united-states\/#\/CA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Economic Policy Institute<\/a>, child care already takes up about one-fifth of a median family\u2019s income in California. With our state\u2019s high cost of living, do we really expect them to shoulder any more sudden costs without dire consequences?<\/p>\n<p>There are existing mechanisms for accountability for public funds, and child-care providers are already burdened with high operational costs.
