The Fresno Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location, aimed at improving public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.<\/p>\n
Police said checkpoint locations are based on data showing impaired driving-related crashes and reminded the public that impairment can result from alcohol, certain prescription or over-the-counter medications, or marijuana, which remains illegal to use while driving.<\/p>\n
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and a suspended license.<\/p>\n
The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n
