I look forward to working alongside her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith was<a href=\"https:\/\/sacramentocityexpress.com\/2025\/09\/30\/sacramento-city-council-appoints-maraskeshia-smith-as-new-city-manager\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0appointed by City Council<\/a>\u00a0following a nationwide recruitment process and officially began her role on Jan. 5.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to begin this work alongside the Mayor, City Council and our dedicated City employees,\u201d Smith said. \u201cTogether, we will focus on keeping our neighborhoods safe, strengthening quality of life and delivering services in a way that is transparent, equitable and responsive to the people we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/DSC8978.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37350\"\/>Maraskeshia Smith<\/p>\n<p>As City Manager, Smith oversees nearly 6,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, manages a $1.6 billion annual operating budget and is responsible for implementing policy direction set by the City Council.<\/p>\n<p>Smith brings more than two decades of public service experience to Sacramento. She has held leadership roles including Deputy Director and Director of Public Services in Cincinnati, Assistant City Administrator in Oakland and Deputy City Manager in Stockton. Most recently, she served as City Manager of Santa Rosa.<\/p>\n<p>She holds a Master of Business Administration from Eastern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Kentucky.
