Photo by Joe Eskenazi on Dec. 31, 2025<\/p>\n<p>This Sunday, celebrate the life of Claude, the albino alligator, who <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/12\/claude-albino-alligator-obituary-cal-academy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">died in December<\/a> at age of 30, at Golden Gate Park.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you voted in the <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/01\/sf-claude-alligator-street-poll-results\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mission Local poll<\/a> to choose the street to rename as \u201cClaude the Albino Alligator Way,\u201d this is the time to see it happen. A new street sign at Music Concourse Drive between JFK Promenade and MLK Drive, will be unveiled. Fittingly, it will be right in front of Claude\u2019s home for 17 years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Claude fans are invited to add memorial notes to a 16-foot alligator silhouette, where people can tell Claude (and his care team) about their memories.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the celebration at Golden Gate Bandshell will feature a brass band second line parade \u2014 a performance in a nod of Claude\u2019s Louisiana roots \u2014 with poetry, speeches, and drag story time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also, get ready for a costume contest for both adults, kids and pets. The prizes include a one year Academy family membership (!) and limited-edition Claude merch. Since last summer, the Inner Sunset neighborhood has been <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/07\/gregoire-berkeley-sf-inner-sunset-sandwich\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">waiting for the Berkeley sandwich shop<\/a> to open.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s happening (soft opening) this Friday.<\/p>\n<p>For the past few months, owners of the franchise have been renovating the old Jamba Juice space, finishing with an orange awning \u2014 a signature color from Gr\u00e9goire\u2019s patent takeout box.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, park goers at 9th Avenue and Irving Street will get to enjoy its famed ping-pong-ball-sized potato puffs \u2014 golden and crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"853\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Rubys-853x640.jpg\" alt=\"A green building with a yellow-green awning and sign reading &quot;Ruby's,&quot; outdoor wooden tables, and an open entrance to a caf\u00e9.\" class=\"wp-image-829134\"  \/>Ruby\u2019s opens at 4300 Judah St. last October, serving ceviche, fish tacos and poke bowls. It takes up the space at 4300 Judah St. previously occupied by Beach\u2019n, a vegan restaurant that closed last May.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ruby\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/rubyssf\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">offers the classic beach takeouts<\/a> such as ceviche verde, fish tacos and poke bowls. The store is painted green with yellow accents, decorated by dark wooden shelves and plants. The window looks out to the view of N-Judah training passing by every 10 minutes (give or take).<\/p>\n<p>On a sunny Thursday morning, Nick Osborne, co-owner of the Ruby\u2019s, was busy in the kitchen, grilling tortillas and making soup. Growing up in the Outer Sunset, he spent his childhood going to Ocean Beach \u2014 now, his three kids do the same.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the opportunity for this space came up, he couldn\u2019t pass it on. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of fun energy in the neighborhood these days,\u201d he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/author\/junyaoy\/\" rel=\"author nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/secure.gravatar.com\/avatar\/1dcbeaa80354fafeb56adf8c8dd44f492470dd1eda9cc4e28de6028d24818980?s=80&amp;d=mm&amp;r=g\"  class=\"avatar avatar-80 photo\" height=\"80\" width=\"80\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Junyao covers San Francisco&#8217;s Westside, from the Richmond to the Sunset.
