A man was fatally shot while inside a pickup truck in Long Beach early Sunday morning, prompting a homicide investigation, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers with the Long Beach Police Department were on patrol around 1:49 a.m. when they heard multiple gunshots near the 1600 block of Gaviota Avenue, authorities said. As officers searched the area, they located a white pickup truck that had crashed into a light pole and an unoccupied parked vehicle.<\/p>\n
Police said officers approached the truck and found an adult male driver suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and a preliminary investigation indicated the victim was inside the vehicle when he was shot, police said. Suspect information and a possible motive were not immediately released and remain under investigation.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.<\/p>\n
