{"id":140202,"date":"2026-01-19T16:05:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T16:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/140202\/"},"modified":"2026-01-19T16:05:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T16:05:06","slug":"san-diegans-honor-legacy-of-martin-luther-king-jr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/140202\/","title":{"rendered":"San Diegans Honor Legacy Of Martin Luther King Jr."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated in San Diego Sunday and Monday with a series of community events.<\/p>\n<p>The third Monday in January became a federal holiday in observance of the late civil rights leader, after President Ronald Reagan signed it into law on November 2, 1983.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what&#8217;s happening on Monday around San Diego County:<\/p>\n<p>38th annual All Peoples Celebration\u00a0Hosted by Alliance San Diego\u00a0<br \/>\nStarts at 10 a.m. at the Balboa Park Activity Center, located at 2145 Park Blvd.\u00a0<br \/>\nFeature keynote speaker, B.A. Parker, co-host of NPR&#8217;s &#8220;Code Switch,&#8221; and live performances from transcenDance Youth Arts, Olivia Mercedes and J. Pierre<br \/>\n37th Annual Martin Luther King Day CelebrationHosted by WorldBeat Cultural Center<br \/>\nFrom 11:30 a.m. &#8211; 5:30 p.m. in Balboa Park at 2100 Park Blvd.\u00a0<br \/>\nFree, all-ages event\u00a0<br \/>\nFeature live performances, guest speakers and craft vendors<\/p>\n<p>Also Monday, California residents and visitors will receive free vehicle day-use entry to participating California state parks. The free- admission day is made possible by the California State Parks Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Partnerships like this help remove barriers and ensure more Californians can experience the natural and cultural treasures that belong to all of us,&#8221; said Armando Quintero, California State Parks director.<\/p>\n<p>Participating county parks include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anza-Borrego Desert State Park;<br \/>\nBorder Field State Park;<br \/>\nCardiff State Beach;<br \/>\nCarlsbad State Beach;<br \/>\nCuyamaca Rancho State Park;<br \/>\nPalomar Mountain State Park;<br \/>\nSan Elijo State Beach;<br \/>\nSan Onofre State Beach;<br \/>\nSan Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park;<br \/>\nSilver Strand State Beach;<br \/>\nSouth Carlsbad State Beach;<br \/>\nTijuana Estuary National Park Point of Interest;<br \/>\nTorrey Pines State Beach; and<br \/>\nTorrey Pines State Natural Reserve<br \/>\nClosures<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the festivities, numerous city and county offices and other county-owned facilities such as family resource centers, library branches, county public health clinics, and animal shelters will be closed Monday.<\/p>\n<p>County parks, campgrounds and neighborhood day-use parks remain open 365 days a year.
