After one year of construction, all prefabricated modular units are now in place for a new student housing complex at the Compton College <\/a>campus, per a social media post from the school.<\/a><\/p>\n

The project, which broke ground in early 2025,<\/a> is located on a 2.8-acre site along Main Campus Drive to the south of Greenleaf Boulevard. The new construction consists of interconnected three-story structures which will feature 151 one- and two-bedroom suites, providing room for up to 251 homeless and low-income students.<\/p>\n

HPI Architecture<\/a> is designing the project, which will be centered on a landscaped central courtyard.<\/p>\n

Completion is expected in Summer 2027.<\/p>\n

The project is funded in large part by grants totaling more than $80 million under AB 183 <\/a>. Total project budget is $83 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other local community colleges, including Long Beach Community College<\/a>, have also moved to build housing on their campuses. A 2024 report <\/a>concluded that one quarter of California community college students had experienced homelessness in the preceding year.<\/p>\n
