A Southern California man said he and his wife are lucky to be alive after a violent and fiery motorcycle crash in Long Beach earlier this month that left them both hospitalized.<\/p>\n

The Jan. 10 crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Orange Avenue.<\/p>\n

Ramon Acosta told KTLA\u2019s Rachel\u00a0Menitoff\u00a0that he and his wife, Michaele, were headed to breakfast ahead of a meetup with other motorcycle enthusiasts for a ride up Pacific Coast Highway.<\/p>\n

Before they were able to do either of those things, a motorist\u00a0reportedly made\u00a0an illegal left turn in front of them, causing their motorcycle to T-bone the vehicle and\u00a0immediately\u00a0burst into flames.<\/p>\n

The force of the impact threw Acosta onto the hood of the vehicle he crashed into and carried him away from the fire, while his wife was ejected onto the street, narrowly missing the flames.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf one of our pants got caught on the bike, we would have ended up engulfed in flames,\u201d Acosta said.<\/p>\n

Acosta suffered a broken arm and internal bleeding, while his wife\u00a0required\u00a0a full hip replacement due to the injuries suffered in the harrowing ordeal. Both are expected to recover.<\/p>\n

The couple has nine children between the two of them, some of whom told KTLA that they were extremely concerned when the incident happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen they told me he was in an accident, I tried to get here as fast as I could,\u201d daughter Sara Acosta said. \u201cNo one wants to hear that their\u00a0parent is\u00a0in the hospital, so that really scared me, especially since\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0always on his motorcycle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daughter Aliyah Taylor said that\u00a0both of them\u00a0are now doing better than when they first arrived at the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just really hope that they can build back, like, how things were,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if anyone will face charges in the accident, though Long Beach police officials said that the cause of the crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

Michaele, who suffered the worst of the injuries, is being discharged ahead of her husband because she does not have health insurance to help\u00a0cover\u00a0the more than $200,000 in medical\u00a0bills that\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0incurred.<\/p>\n

The family, according to\u00a0a\u00a0GoFundMe<\/a>\u00a0organized for the couple, said that neither of them\u00a0can\u00a0work and earn an income right now and that the \u201cfinancial strain has become overwhelming\u201d between their emergency medical bills and taking care of\u00a0basic month-to-month living expenses.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s weird because when everything is going okay, you don\u2019t realize how many people care about you,\u201d he told KTLA from his hospital bed. \u201cThen when it goes bad, they all come out. For everybody that reached out, thank you, guys.\u201d<\/p>\n
