A Youngstown man who led police on a chase following an attempted traffic stop in Butler and subsequent a search in Oakland Township on Monday night was apprehended early Tuesday morning, Jan. 20.<\/p>\n
Jumal Alfred McQueen, 31, is accused of attempting to enter a home in the 200 block of Old East Butler Road after telling the resident he ran out of gas, according to charges filed Tuesday. He then fled on foot, prompting a manhunt, police said.<\/p>\n
The interaction happened after McQueen fled police when Butler city officers attempted to stop a white Hyundai Elantra with Ohio registration for having a taillight out at about 6:20 p.m. on North Monroe Street in Butler, according to an affidavit.<\/p>\n
Police said the vehicle did not stop, turned left onto Route 68 and fled at high speeds.<\/p>\n
The vehicle turned onto Fared Drive in Oakland Township and stopped in the 100 block before McQueen fled on foot into a wooded area.<\/p>\n
At the time, state police also joined the call and launched a search in the area for a Black man with dreadlocks wearing black pants, a black jacket with white stripes down the side and a white T-shirt.<\/p>\n
Police said a short time later, a resident in the 200 block of Old East Butler Road reported a man matching McQueen\u2019s description knocked on her door and said he was out of gas. The woman gave the man a phone to call for help and locked the door.<\/p>\n
Police said the resident reported McQueen attempted to open the door before asking, \u201cdid you call 911?\u201d McQueen then left on foot, the resident reported to police.<\/p>\n
The affidavit did not include details about how McQueen was apprehended.<\/p>\n
He was charged Tuesday by state police with one misdemeanor count each of fleeing or eluding police and loitering or prowling at night, summary criminal trespass and a summary driving offense.<\/p>\n
McQueen is being held in Butler County Prison on $300,000 bail. He was arraigned by District Judge Jack Ripper at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday morning. His preliminary hearing is yet to be scheduled.<\/p>\n
McQueen was previously convicted in Ohio in 2021 before a grand jury of felony weapons charges, according to reporting by WKBN<\/a>. He was arrested Jan. 30, 2021, after a chase that began when he ran a stop sign.<\/p>\n Reports on the Ohio incident said he wrecked the vehicle and was chased through several backyards before being caught. Police found a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, two bags of cocaine and $3,428 in cash, according to reports.<\/p>\n He was banned from possessing a firearm after a 2012 conviction for cocaine possession.<\/p>\n
