{"id":142478,"date":"2026-01-21T02:38:14","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T02:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/142478\/"},"modified":"2026-01-21T02:38:14","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T02:38:14","slug":"california-republicans-appeal-prop-50-lawsuit-to-us-supreme-court-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/142478\/","title":{"rendered":"California Republicans appeal Prop 50 lawsuit to US Supreme Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">The California Republican Party has filed an emergency application with the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of blocking the state from using newly approved congressional district maps in this year&#8217;s elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The filing asks Justice Elena Kagan, who is assigned to the Ninth Circuit, to issue an injunction pending appeal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The legal move would temporarily reinstate election maps that were in place before California voters approved Proposition 50.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Those earlier maps were created by a citizens-led independent commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Under Proposition 50, maps targeting five California districts were redrawn to become more favorable for Democrats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The maps are set to be used for the 2026, 2028 and 2030 elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A panel of federal judges upheld the newly drawn maps earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2026 KABC Television, LLC.
