(KGET) \u2014 The Shafter City Council is set to hold a public workshop Tuesday afternoon to discuss a potential local sales tax measure for the November 2026 ballot, according to the agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The workshop is designed to be a conceptual discussion and will show a presentation outlining a potential local sales tax and other revenue-generating options to maintain service levels in Shafter, according to the agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This comes at a time when traditional revenue sources are under more and more strain, the agenda said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/city-shafter-prepare-potential-sales-002604144.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:City of Shafter to prepare for potential sales tax measure on 2026 ballot;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> City of Shafter to prepare for potential sales tax measure on 2026 ballot <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">City staff said it will use feedback gathered during the workshop for future agenda items.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Those items could include requests to award professional services agreements to develop a \u201cproactive and transparent\u201d public engagement process as a first step before considering a revenue measure, according to the agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/city-shafter-prepare-potential-sales-002604144.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:current sales tax rate;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">current sales tax rate<\/a> in Shafter is 7.25%, which is the lowest rate among all Kern County cities.
