Fresno Housing said Tuesday it has secured about $25 million in federal and state tax credits to convert an emergency shelter in the Parkway Drive area to affordable housing.<\/p>\n
\u201cParkway Drive has a long history of challenges, but today it represents one of Fresno\u2019s most promising examples of what reinvestment and community vision can accomplish,\u201d said Tyrone Roderick Williams, CEO of Fresno Housing, in a news release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tax credit award for Davu Village continues the momentum of turning once-dilapidated sites into vibrant communities that offer safety, stability, and opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Davu Village marks a significant milestone in broader revitalization efforts planned for the Parkway Drive corridor led by Fresno Housing and the city of Fresno, local officials said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor five years, we\u2019ve worked to meet people where they are \u2014 providing services, skills training, and temporary housing. Davu Village takes that work further \u2014 by bringing permanent housing to 63 people who were formerly homeless. This is another way to give them the stability they need to rebuild their lives and succeed,\u201d said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.<\/p>\n

When the conversion is completed, Davu Village will provide:<\/p>\n

\nOutdoor green space
\nCommunity center for onsite services, events and resident engagement
\nLaundry facilities
\nGated Community
\nOnsite property management<\/p>\n
The village site is 1415 W. Olive Ave., where a former emergency shelter, Golden State Triage Center, was located.<\/p>\n
Construction on Davu Village is expected to begin this summer after all the financing is in place.<\/p>\n
