The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., looking for drivers suspected of impaired driving.<\/p>\n
Officials remind the public that impairment isn\u2019t limited to alcohol. Some prescription and over-the-counter medications can affect driving, and while medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.<\/p>\n
Drivers caught with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.<\/p>\n
The patrols are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n
The department had planned a DUI checkpoint on Saturday, Jan. 17, but canceled it due to fog.<\/p>\n
