Today marks the one-year anniversary of the opening of Bakersfield College\u2019s Arvin
\n Campus. The Arvin Educational Center, located at 1001 Varsity Road, has been an invaluable
\n addition to the BC community, providing educational opportunities to residents of
\n south Kern County. They have already provided services to thousands of students through
\n courses, workshops, and events.<\/p>\n

Isabel Castaneda, the Program Manager at the Arvin Educational Center, said that this
\n one-year milestone is deeply meaningful to the site’s team and the community they
\n serve. \u201cAt the heart of BC Arvin\u2019s first year has been a commitment to people, not
\n just programs,\u201d she said, \u201cmy goal as the on-site manager has been to truly get to
\n know the community and ensure that every student and family feels seen, respected,
\n and supported.\u201d<\/p>\n

The past year, BC Arvin not only hosted their first collegiate courses, but also offered
\n a variety of events throughout the campus\u2019 inaugural year to foster a sense of community
\n and encourage student involvement, including a Cinco de Mayo celebration, Noche de
\n Familia, Adult Education Night, the Mayor\u2019s Dinner, the Dr. Jim Young Library dedication,
\n and more.<\/p>\n

Castaneda shared excitement about the partnerships they created that helped BC Arvin
\n grow and thrive. \u201cOur partners at Arvin High School, the Grow Academy, Arvin Union
\n School District, and the Lamont School District were pivotal in helping share information
\n and ensure strong community participation,\u201d she said, \u201ctheir collaboration helped
\n build trust and awareness, allowing the center to feel like a shared community space
\n from the very beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the first year of operation showed substantial growth, Castaneda expressed great
\n optimism for the future of BC Arvin. \u201cI\u2019m excited about growth that is intentional
\n and grounded in community needs,\u201d she said, \u201cthat includes expanding academic and
\n workforce pathways, strengthening certificate and career-focused programs, deepening
\n Early College opportunities, and continuing to develop BC Arvin as a true educational
\n and community hub.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congratulations to all the faculty, staff, and students that have contributed to an
\n exciting and successful year one at Bakersfield College\u2019s Arvin Campus. There is truly
\n a bright future for BC Arvin and the surrounding communities, and we look forward
\n to hearing more stories of growth and student success.<\/p>\n

Castaneda shared one final thought for the Arvin community, \u201cBC Arvin was built for
\n you,\u201d she said, \u201cWhether you are a first-time college student, a working adult returning
\n to school, or a family member supporting someone on their educational journey, this
\n center exists to remove barriers and make college accessible, welcoming, and achievable
\n close to home.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
