A sewage spill upstream<\/a> has resulted in the ban of many open water swimming areas. According to the California Office of Emergency Services, \u201cmore than 18,000 gallons of sewage were discharged into the San Gabriel River on Dec. 16.\u201d By closing these open water areas, it prevents any possible health risk that could occur from exposure to the spillage.<\/p>\n

Long Beach\u2019s alert system, which is utilized in the wake of emergencies, natural disasters or warning of dangerous weather, has been shut down<\/a> for a month now. This comes as a cyberattack that put 25,000 local users at risk during a siege of information in the month of November.<\/p>\n

With the depletion of 100 university buildings nationwide, the hope to reopen universities was slim. ABC News reported<\/a>, \u201cthe temporary campus where Al-Azhar has resumed in-person teaching, the damaged classrooms and improvised facilities reflected the depth of the crisis\u2013yet they also highlighted the resilience of students returning.\u201d<\/p>\n

An overnight United States Military coup was catapulted to breaking news headlines after the\u00a0capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro<\/a> on Jan. 3. Maduro and his wife\u00a0will be tried in the United States Courts under suspicions of international narcoterrorism, weaponry charges and drug importation conspiracies.<\/p>\n
