LONG BEACH, CA \u2014 A gardener being detained in Long Beach Tuesday told U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents he was a dual citizen, a video of the incident provided to multiple media outlets shows.<\/p>\n
Agents detained two gardeners in Long Beach\u2019s University Park Estates neighborhood<\/a> at about 9:30 a.m., the Long Beach Post first reported.<\/p>\n As ICE agents approached the area, a garbage truck driver began honking to alert the gardeners, witnesses told the news outlet.<\/p>\n One gardener remained in place and was detained by agents, while another fled but was ultimately detained by agents as well, according to witnesses.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a America citizen here<\/a>,\u201d the man says as he is being detained by agents, a video of the incident shared by NBC Los Angeles shows.<\/p>\n \u201cWhere\u2019s your documents?\u201d an agent asks in the video. \u201cLet me see your paperwork.\u201d<\/p>\n The agent goes on to ask the man where he was born, to which the man responds, \u201cmemorial hospital in Long Beach.\u201d<\/p>\n Agents then pull an identification card from the man\u2019s pocket, the video from NBC Los Angeles shows.<\/p>\n \u201cThis says Mexico,\u201d the agent says in Spanish while holding the card.<\/p>\n \u201cI’m a dual citizen,\u201d the man responds in Spanish.<\/p>\n \u201cOk. We\u2019ll investigate it,\u201d the agent says in the video. <\/p>\n The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to Patch\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n
