I don\u2019t know what (Gov.) Gavin Newsom is thinking or doing, but his first priority should be protecting his citizens in California,\u201d Duffy told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/katie-pavlich-tonight\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:\u201cKatie Pavlich Tonight\u201d;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">\u201cKatie Pavlich Tonight\u201d<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Department of Transportation has pressured California to revoke thousands of what DOT considers \u201cillegally issued\u201d nondomiciled CDLs. Nationwide, the agency has been cracking down on immigrant truck drivers, citing a series of deadly accidents, and has threatened to withhold federal funds from states that do not follow federal rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/us-news\/ap-us-news\/ap-trump-administration-threatens-to-withhold-75m-from-pennsylvania-over-immigrant-truck-drivers\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Trump administration threatens to withhold $75M from Pennsylvania over immigrant truck drivers;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> Trump administration threatens to withhold $75M from Pennsylvania over immigrant truck drivers <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">California previously said it was revoking the CDLs of 17,000 migrant truck drivers Jan. 5, but the state, facing lawsuits from immigrant-rights advocates, granted a two-month extension for drivers to retest and reapply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Democrat Newsom said officials in the Republican Trump administration had agreed to the extension, but Duffy disagreed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He said DOT has already withheld $200 million from California. Stiffer measures may be needed, he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIf they don\u2019t come into compliance, we will eventually pull their ability to issue commercial driver\u2019s licenses to anybody in California,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
