Fake hospice and home health care providers are estimated to have taken in billions of dollars in health care funding in L.A. County.<\/p>\n
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz announced during a press conference that his agency is investigating billions of dollars in alleged fraudulent healthcare funding in California.\u00a0Roughly $3.5 billion has been spent in Los Angeles County for hospice and home healthcare.\n<\/p>\n
Dr. Oz stated, \u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing in Minnesota, which is billions of dollars of fraud that hurts our most vulnerable people and puts them at risk\u2026 is dwarfed by what I saw in California, which is whole-scale cultural malfeasance around health care.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
The CMS administrator said that a sevenfold increase in hospice care has occurred in Los Angeles County, California, which does not line up with the number of deaths they reported in that county. He stated, \u201cThese are fraudsters, and these do tend to be foreign influences, either Russian and Armenian gangs, mafia, that are leading a lot of\u00a0these\u00a0efforts.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
The fraud being reported currently appears to utilize fake hospice providers comprised of approximately 100 doctors who convince patients that they are dying in order to enroll them into hospice care. It is estimated that about 100,000 people have currently given their Medicare numbers to these fraudulent programs. This totals to about\n<\/p>\n
