BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The evacuation order for area of Phillips Road and Palm Avenue, near the Wasco-Kern County Airport, was lifted after a report of a methane gas leak Friday morning.<\/p>\n

According to ReadyKern, a Methane gas release was a threat to areas North of Wasco. As of 1 p.m., the evacuation order was lifted.<\/p>\n

It said, “Methane gas displaces oxygen, and can cause dizziness, fatigue, nausea, collapse, or even death from asphyxiation at high levels, with potential for permanent brain damage from severe lack of oxygen.”<\/p>\n

According to the CHP\u2019s website, at around 9:37 a.m., traffic control was requested for a hard closure as firefighters were in the area of Phillips Road and Palm Avenue for an oil well fire that was releasing methane gas.<\/p>\n
