\nSaturday’s doubleheader will serve as Slippery Rock basketball’s first “Divine Nine Game”.\u00a0The Divine Nine consist of the nine recognized Black Greek-letter organizations, which are members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).

\nFounded in 1930, the NPHC was established to create unity among the Black Greek-letter organizations, provide a collective voice, and coordinate the efforts of these fraternities and sororities across the nation. Its mission centered on promoting cooperation, addressing campus and community issues and uplifting African American students and families. To read more about the Divine Nine click\u00a0HERE<\/a>.

\nOn the Slippery Rock campus there are two Divine Nine fraternities and sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha and Alpha Phi Alpha. Both organizations will be present Saturday with informational tables in the Morrow Field House lobby. The groups will also be recognized at halftime the men’s game.<\/p>\n

LAST TIME OUT

\nSlippery Rock was downed in a PSAC West matchup, 96-75, at Seton Hill University Jan. 17.<\/p>\n

Iyanna Wade<\/a>\u00a0led Slippery Rock in scoring for the sixth time this season. Wade matched her career-high with 20 points. The freshman also facilitated out five assists, brought down three rebounds and collected three steals.<\/p>\n

Kayley Joseph-Bernard<\/a><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Sophia Hook<\/a><\/a>\u00a0each scored 13 points for The Rock. Hook grabbed three rebounds and dished out two assists, while Joseph-Bernard brought down 18 rebounds, facilitated four assists, blocked one shot and came away with one steal.<\/p>\n

Alyssa Gillin<\/a><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Karianna Woods<\/a>\u00a0rounded out SRU’s double-digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Gillin grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. Woods picked up three rebounds, two assists and two steals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mairan Haggerty<\/a><\/a>\u00a0rounded out The Rock’s scorers with eight points against her former team. The junior forward also grabbed five rebounds, dished out one assist and picked up one steal.<\/p>\n

Slippery Rock ended the game shooting 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field overall, 28\u00a0percent (7-for-25) from the 3-point line and\u00a057.1 percent (8-of-14) from the charity stripe.<\/p>\n

Seton Hill shot to 52.2 percent (36-of-69) from the floor overall, 35 percent (7-for-20) from beyond the arc and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the\u00a0foul line.<\/p>\n

BALANCED ATTACK

\nAgainst the Griffins, Slippery Rock had five players score in double figures with Wade (20), Joseph-Bernard (13), Hook (13), Gillin (11) and Woods (10). The last time Slippery Rock had five different players score 10 or more points in a game was Nov. 27, 2021, in a 77-71 victory over Notre Dame College. Jamiyah Johnson, Isabella Middleton, Kennedy Middleton, Daeja Quick and Anyah Curd all scored 10 or more points for SRU against the Falcons.<\/p>\n

LEADING THE PACK

\nWade is currently averaging\u00a013.6 points per game and 4.6 assists per game this season. The guard sits 29th in the country in assists per game and\u00a0is the second highest in the freshmen ranks in Division II. The rookie also leads all freshmen in the conference in scoring and assists.<\/p>\n

\nMOVING THE ROCK
\nBall movement has been key for SRU putting up 65.9 points per game as it has assisted on 57.2 percent (226-of-395) of it’s made field goals.<\/p>\n

Wade and Joseph-Bernard lead the way for Rock playmakers as the guard ranks second (4.6 apg) and the forward ranks fifth (3.9 apg) in the PSAC in assists per game.<\/p>\n

Slippery Rock is the only team in the PSAC with two of the top five players in assists per game.<\/p>\n

PROTECTING THE PAINT

\nJoseph-Bernard has been one of the fiercest shot-blockers in the country so far this season. The forward is currently 34th\u00a0in Division II in total blocks with 29 and 37th\u00a0with 1.81 blocks per game. While near the top of the country in blocks and blocks per game, Joseph-Bernard’s total rejection numbers sit third the PSAC. The senior forward only trails Lock Haven University’s Alana Robinson (2.2) and Kutztown University’s Ariana Smuda (1.82) in blocks per game.<\/p>\n

Along with Joseph-Bernard, Gillin has also been a force in the paint. Gillin ranks fifth in total blocks (25) and\u00a0fifth in blocks per game (1.6) in the PSAC.<\/p>\n

ROOKIE LEADERS

\nWith 10 games left in the regular season, Wade is currently The Rock’s leading scorer with 13.6 points per game. If the freshman stays as SRU’s top point-getter, she will be the third rookie to lead The Rock in scoring since the 1999-00 season. Regan Atkins<\/a> (2023-24) and Becky Siembak (1999-00) are the only SRU rookies to lead the team in points in the last 27 seasons.<\/p>\n

RISING UP THE RANKS

\nAgainst the Griffins, Joseph-Bernard\u00a0moved into sole possession for 10th\u00a0place ahead of Lori Robinson (1993-96, 97-98) on Slippery Rock’s career blocks list with 57 rejections.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gillin blocked two shots against Seton Hill to into a tie for 13th\u00a0place, with Mallory Heinle (2014-18) on the blocks list with 50.<\/p>\n

INSIDE-OUT THREAT

\nGillin has been a cornerstone for SRU both offensively and defensively this year. Not only has she blocked 1.6 shots per game, she’s also converted 31 of her 91 3-point attempts on the way to averaging 12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field overall to go with her impressive shot blocking.

\nGillin is one of only two athletes in all of Division II to have recorded at least 30 made 3-pointers and 25\u00a0blocks this year.

PICKING UP STEALS

\nWoods has been a core player\u00a0for SRU on the defensive end this season. The senior transfer from Bethune-Cookman\u00a0sits with 33\u00a0steals on the season, just one\u00a0steal\u00a0behind Lexi Carpenter\u00a0(2015-16) for the 9th most steals by a transfer in their first year at SRU. Woods has at leas tone steal in all but one game so far this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the offensive end, Woods has reach double-digits in points in eight of her last nine games, averaging\u00a010.3 ppg over that span.<\/p>\n

PRODUCTION OFF THE BENCH

\nHaggerty has been a productive scorer off the bench in the last three games for Slippery Rock. The junior has scored 14 or more points in two of her last three appearances, averaging 12.0 ppg in that span.<\/p>\n

A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

\nWhile typically not the highest scoring player on the court,\u00a0Joseph-Bernard always finds multiple ways to impact the game. The senior is averaging 9.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.8 blocks and 2.1 steals per game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Joseph-Bernard is the only Division II athlete to average at least 9.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.<\/p>\n

APPROACHING FRESHMAN RANKS

\nThree games into the second half of the\u00a0regular season, Wade is 41 points, and four 3-pointers away from entering Slippery Rock’s top 10 list for a freshman in each category. The freshman is currently chasing Viola Bournes (259 points), and Robinson (20 3-pointers).<\/p>\n

Against SHU, Wade orchestrated five assists to move up four spots into sixth place on SRU’s freshman assists list with 73 assists so far in 2025-26.<\/p>\n

NO FLY ZONE

\nJoseph-Bernard and Gillin have been the backbone Slippery Rock’s defense this season. The two forwards rank inside the top 10 for blocks as a senior at The Rock as Joseph-Bernard sits in third place with 29 blocks, while Gillin occupies fifth place with 25 blocks.<\/p>\n

Gillin also currently sports the seventh highest 3-point percentage (.341) by a Slippery Rock senior with at least three attempts per game.<\/p>\n

SETTING RECORDS

\nJoseph-Bernard and Gillin have combined to 54 blocks this season to help The Rock up to sixth on the PSAC’s block rankings with 4.1 per game.

\nJoseph-Bernard and Gillin has also been prolific shot blockers over their careers as the duo Joseph-Bernard and Gillin are just the seventh pair of Rock teammates with each holding at least 35 career blocks to be active at the same time.

HITTING THE GLASS

\nJoseph-Bernard is one of the premier rebounders in the PSAC as the senior grabs the third most defensive rebounds per game (8.2), the third most rebounds per contest (9.7) and the fourth most total rebounds (155) in the PSAC.\u00a0Most recently Joseph-Bernard grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds against the Griffins, the 24th most rebounds in a single game in Divisions II this season.<\/p>\n

Joseph-Bernard’s 8.2 defensive rpg puts the senior as the seventh best defensive rebounder in Division II.<\/p>\n

IRON WOMEN

\nSlippery Rock has utilized the same starting lineup of Wade, Hook, Woods, Gillin and Joseph-Bernard in all 16 games this season. The Rock’s core five rarely leave the court as every SRU starter averages at least 33.4 minutes per game.

\nLed by Wade’s\u00a036.9 minutes per game, a PSAC-high and the 14th most in the nation, all five Rock starters are ranked in the top of 13 in the conference in terms of minutes played per game. Hook is also in the top 40 in Division II in mpg as the junior guard ranks 38th\u00a0in the country.

SCOUTING CALIFORNIA

\nThe Vulcans have struggled lately compared to the impressive history of California basketball. Last season Cal went 16-12, it was the Vulcans’ first season not reaching the 20-win threshold since the 2013-14 season and only the second time under head coach Jess Strom. California currently sits at 9-11, trying to avoid its first sub .500 record since the 1998-99 season. The Vulcans have faced four ranked opponents already this season, with a 1-3 record in such games. Cal’s lone ranked win came at home against then ranked No. 16 Malone University, 72-61.<\/p>\n

Kennedy Bakett leads California’s three double-digit scorers with 14.8 ppg. Alicia Young (13.8) and Trinity Balog (10.6) also score in double-figures for the Vulcans. Kimaya Williams is active on the offensive glass for Cal as the junior grabs 3.2 offensive rpg, the fifth most in the PSAC. Bankett and Hope Hawkins also grab over 2.0 offensive rpg with 2.1 and 2.4, respectively.<\/p>\n

Defensively, Young generates 2.4 spg, while Williams collects 2.3 spg. As a team, the Vulcans rank ninth in the PSAC with 9.7 spg and 12th with 2.7 bpg.<\/p>\n

\nSlippery Rock hits the road for a matchup 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at Edinboro before returning to Morrow Field House for a three-game homestand.<\/p>\n
