The Fresno Police Department will conduct a DUI enforcement operation on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.<\/p>\n
Police reminded the public that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can interfere with a person\u2019s ability to drive, and drivers are urged to follow directions for use and read warning labels related to driving.<\/p>\n
While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, the department said.<\/p>\n
Drivers arrested for a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n
The Fresno Police Department encouraged motorists to plan ahead for a sober ride and make responsible choices.<\/p>\n
Funding for the DUI enforcement operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n
