President Donald Trump said Saturday he plans to skip next month\u2019s Super Bowl<\/a>, slamming the halftime performers and griping that the California game is too far away.<\/p>\n

Trump, who attended last year\u2019s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans, told the New York Post,<\/a> \u201cIt\u2019s just too far away.\u00a0I would, I\u2019ve [gotten] great hands [at] the Super\u00a0Bowl. They like me.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Super Bowl will be held at Levi\u2019s Stadium in Santa Clara, California<\/a>, near San Jose.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI would go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president has also been openly critical of headline performer<\/a> Bad Bunny since he was chosen last year to perform during the halftime show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know who he is,\u201d Trump told Newsmax of the choice last fall. \u201cI don\u2019t know why they\u2019re doing it. It\u2019s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it\u2019s absolutely ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rock band Green Day was also selected in the last week to play before the kickoff.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny and Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong are both liberal performers who have been vocal about their dislike of Trump in the past.<\/p>\n

Bad Bunny said last fall he decided to do his residency show in his native Puerto Rico<\/a> and didn\u2019t book any U.S. dates on his tour over fears his fans would be detained by ICE agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut there was the issue of, like, f\u2014ing ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it\u2019s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,\u201d the Latin pop star, who has a large Latino following, told i-D.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old also featured a person doing a Trump impression in his song \u201cNuevayol,\u201d saying, \u201cI want to apologize to the immigrants in America. . . . This country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Armstrong has likened Trump to Hitler in the past, and the band frequently changes the line \u201cI\u2019m not part of a redneck agenda\u201d from their 2004 hit \u201cAmerican Idiot\u201d to \u201cI\u2019m not part of the MAGA agenda\u201d in more recent live performances, according to The Independent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m anti-them,\u201d Trump told the Post of the performers. \u201cI think it\u2019s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kendrick Lamar headlined last year\u2019s halftime show and SZA, Jon Batiste, Lauren Daigle, Trombone Shorty and Ledisi also performed.<\/p>\n

The Super Bowl will be played Feb. 8 with the Seattle Seahawks-Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots-Denver Broncos championship games Sunday deciding who will meet.<\/p>\n
