No. 20 Cal Takes Down No. 18 NC State In Berkeley<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tBERKELEY \u2013 No. 20 California women’s gymnastics (6-2, 2-0 ACC) claimed victory over No. 18 NC State Saturday evening in Haas Pavilion, outscoring the Wolfpack 196.050-195.575. Golden Bear Tonya Paulsson<\/a> claimed the all-around title in her first NCAA meet competing on all four events, while the squad notched three of the four individual event titles. It was Cal head coach Geralen Stack-Eaton’s first home win as head of the program.

\nThe Bears started strong in their home venue, posting their highest team score of the season on vault with a 49.075 to open the competition. Casey Brown<\/a> and Kyen Mayhew<\/a> each received a 9.850 on vault to tie for first place on the event. Both were season-high scores. Jayden Silvers<\/a> tied for third in the event with a 9.825, which matched her career-high. Cal led by 0.200 at the end of the first rotation.

\nCal continued its success on uneven bars with back-to-back stuck landings from Mya Wiley<\/a> and Annalise Newman-Achee<\/a> from the second and third spots in the Bears’ lineup. Wiley received a 9.850 while Newman-Achee earned a 9.875 to take a share of the event title. Cal received a 49.025 on the event, which was the team’s third score on uneven bars that was 49.000 or more this season. The Bears extended their lead to a 0.325 advantage over NC State at the midway point of the competition.

\nPaulsson made her collegiate balance beam debut, earning the Bears’ top score on the event with a 9.825, good for second-place. Miki Aderinto<\/a> scored a 9.800 to help lift the Bears to a 48.850 on the apparatus and hold onto the meet lead by a 0.100 margin at the end of the third rotation.

\nCal ended the meet on a high note, putting together its best outing on floor exercise this season with a 49.100 team score. Silvers performed a career-high 9.825 from the second spot in the lineup, with CJ Keuneke<\/a> following with a season-high 9.850 from the No. 3 spot. Paulsson anchored with a 9.875, which matched her career-high.

\nThe Bears will stay in the Bay this upcoming week as they head to The Farm for a duel with Stanford on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. PT.
