Schiff Meets with Sikh Commercial Drivers Unfairly Targeted by Trump Administration\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bakersfield, CA\u00a0\u2013 On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) met with Sikh truck drivers, businesses, and community members to talk about the ongoing threat of losing their commercial driver\u2019s license (CDLs) and the impact this has on their livelihoods, community, and local economies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The threats\u00a0come\u00a0as\u00a0the Trump administration\u00a0is\u00a0pushing\u00a0to withhold federal funding from California if it does not revoke licenses\u00a0from Sikh CDL holders\u00a0the U.S. Department of Transportation\u00a0(DOT)\u00a0alleges are in violation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, Schiff heard directly from Sikh drivers about their concerns including their fears of going to work due to the Trump administration\u2019s immigration crackdown and the increasing prejudice and bigotry being demonstrated against the community. Schiff emphasized that he would coordinate with the state of California to find solutions and push back against DOT\u2019s abuse and attempts to try to target immigrant communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0very concerned\u00a0about the loss of jobs, the loss of income for families, and the degree to which Sikh drivers\u00a0have to\u00a0deal with threats from people on the road or are stopped by transportation\u00a0[officials or]\u00a0referred to ICE.\u00a0And even though folks are here lawfully and have work permits, they risk being detained or deported, so just\u00a0a whole set\u00a0of concerns. I think this will just push prices higher.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0already a scarcity of drivers, and here you have some deeply experienced drivers who are trying to provide for their family,\u201d\u00a0said Senator Schiff during his visit.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is\u00a0similar to\u00a0other people that\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0talked with who show up for their immigration appointments and instead of getting the immigration paperwork moving,\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0detained and deported.
