(Spieker Aquatics Complex)<br \/>\nRecords: UC Davis 3-3<\/p>\n<p>BERKELEY, Calif. \u2014 22 total saves from goalkeeper <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/eva-stein\/20266\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20266\" target=\"_blank\">Eva Stein<\/a> led the way for UC Davis women&#8217;s water polo, who dropped the last two games of the Brigitte Donner Daws Memorial Invitational against Long Beach State and Fresno State.<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/chelsea-johnson\/20258\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20258\" target=\"_blank\">Chelsea Johnson<\/a> opened the scoring early with two goals, including one on a powerplay, sandwiching a goal from <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/ashley-wallin\/20269\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20269\" target=\"_blank\">Ashley Wallin<\/a> to give UC Davis a quick 3-0 run.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Beach responded with a goal to cut the lead to 3-1 after the first quarter.&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn the second, a pair of Long Beach goals tied the game 3-3, before <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/liberty-massman\/20259\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20259\" target=\"_blank\">Liberty Massman<\/a> scored off an assist from <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/margo-tempel\/20267\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20267\" target=\"_blank\">Margo Tempel<\/a> to give the Aggies a brief advantage.&#13;<br \/>\n\tLong Beach countered with two goals to take a 5-4 lead, but Tempel found the back of the net on a pass from <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/lillie-vehling\/20268\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20268\" target=\"_blank\">Lillie Vehling<\/a> to tie it again.&#13;<br \/>\n\tThe Beach closed out the half with two more goals to go up 7-5.&#13;<br \/>\n\tUC Davis stayed within striking distance in the third quarter as <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/bridget-miller\/20260\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20260\" target=\"_blank\">Bridget Miller<\/a> scored to make it 7-6, where\u00a0goalie Stein recorded her 16th save of the match to keep the Aggies close.&#13;<br \/>\n\tBut Long Beach State pulled away in the final two quarters, scoring eight unanswered goals to secure a 15-6 win.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tComing out the gate, Miller got her first of the match to give the Aggies an early 1-0 lead, but Fresno State responded with two quick goals to take a 2-1 advantage.&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/ally-smith\/20264\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20264\" target=\"_blank\">Ally Smith<\/a> converted a power-play goal to close the first quarter at 3-2.&#13;<br \/>\n\tIn the second, UC Davis and the Bulldogs each scored two goals, one from <a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/alison-giusti\/20254\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20254\" target=\"_blank\">Alison Giusti<\/a> and another from Vehling on a five-meter penalty shot to keep the Aggies close, 5-4.&#13;<br \/>\n\tStein added four saves in the period to help UC Davis maintain a 5-4 deficit at the half.&#13;<br \/>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ucdavisaggies.com\/sports\/womens-water-polo\/roster\/gianna-nocetti\/20261\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"20261\" target=\"_blank\">Gianna Nocetti<\/a> opened the third with a power-play goal to tie the score 5-5, but Fresno State then shot five unanswered goals, separated by a six-on-five powerplay goal from Tempel assisted by Giusti, to make it 10-6.&#13;<br \/>\n\tMiller added her second goal of the day with an assist from Nocetti early in the fourth, followed immediately by another goal from Nocetti, bringing UC Davis within two at 8-10.&#13;<br \/>\n\tFresno State&#8217;s Caitlyn Mossman extended the lead to three, but Giusti answered, converting a powerplay assisted by Vehling to cut the score to 9-11 with three minutes remaining.&#13;<br \/>\n\tHowever, the Bulldogs added two late goals to close out the game, with UC Davis falling 13-9 despite a strong continuous effort.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>UP NEXT: The Aggies will hit the road next weekend for the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif., running Friday, Jan. 30, through Sunday, Feb. 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ABOUT UC DAVIS ATHLETICS:\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nUC Davis, the No. 2 ranked public university by the Wall Street Journal, is home to 40,000 undergraduate students and 12,000 employees.
