The latest edition of our Job Highlights series<\/a> explores an open role on Archinect Jobs for an Architect<\/a> at Paul Halajian Architects<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The position, based in Fresno, California, calls for a \u201ctalented and highly motivated\u201d individual to engage in a wide variety of project activities. Among the responsibilities are client interface, project planning, program development, and schematic design. The role calls for six or more years of postgraduate experience in an established architecture office, an architectural license, and proficiency in BIM software, with Revit preferred.<\/p>\n

The opening at Paul Halajian Architects offers us the opportunity to explore the work of a firm that, since its founding in 2010, has sought projects \u201cthat have the capacity to improve the lives of Valley residents,\u201d primarily in the learning, civic, living, community, and commercial typologies. The firm describes its culture as an \u201copen-studio, collaborative environment,\u201d offering a range of services from architecture to interiors to planning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among the firm’s recent projects is the Saint Rest Food to Share Hub in Southwest Fresno, an area identified as a food desert. The scheme saw the adaptive reuse of a former meatpacking plant, creating a state-of-the-art warehouse with cold storage, office space, and a functional loading dock. Meanwhile, a new 4,000-square-foot two-story building was constructed, containing offices and community support spaces, as well as a teaching kitchen and a balcony.<\/p>\n

In nearby Clovis, the firm completed the Landmark Square project on the former site of the historic Clovis Lumber Yard, adjacent to the terminus of the flume that supported the city\u2019s early lumber industry. The architectural design references the site\u2019s industrial history, with exterior materials including treated cedar and repurposed corrugated metal panels salvaged from the original lumber yard structures, reflecting the role of lumber and carpentry in the development of Clovis.<\/p>\n

Another significant project is the Fresno Pacific University Warkentine Culture & Arts Center in Southeast Fresno. Completed in 2022, the center gathers the university\u2019s art, music, and theater programs into a single, purposeful building. A 500-seat auditorium with retractable seating anchors the project, joined by a black box theater, gallery, and a full complement of back-of-house spaces. More than an academic facility, the building operates as a civic threshold, with a generous lobby that doubles as a student commons and welcomes the broader community inside.<\/p>\n
