FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 Several community groups are working to collect signatures to add a transportation measure on the November 2026 ballot. <\/p>\n
The measure aims to address road improvements and transportation investments that cater to the needs of all residents in Fresno County.<\/p>\n
“Over the last year, thousands of Fresno County residents came together to shape a vision for a better transportation future that aligns our tax dollars with how people actually move through their daily lives,” said Veronica Garibay, co-director of the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability. <\/p>\n
The plan, she added, focuses on fixing local roads, improving transit, and creating jobs without raising taxes.<\/p>\n
The citizen-led initiative seeks to gather 35,000 signatures from Fresno County voters to qualify the measure for the ballot.<\/p>\n
Joan Eaton, a former board member of the Central Valley Community Foundation, stated, “It reflects a commitment to transportation investments that are fair, practical, and benefit the entire region, not just one city or one interest group.”<\/p>\n
The proposed measure is expected to generate $7.4 billion over 30 years to repair local streets, enhance safety, and make transportation options more accessible for everyone. <\/p>\n
An estimated $4.8 billion allocated to local street repairs and neighborhood improvements. <\/p>\n
Public transit services would receive $1.85 billion to enhance efficiency.<\/p>\n
An estimated $370 million would be dedicated to congestion relief projects.<\/p>\n
An additional $296 million would support new technologies and zero-emission infrastructure. <\/p>\n
$74 million would ensure transparent spending and oversight.<\/p>\n
Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer stated, “For nearly four decades, local transportation sales tax funds have delivered real results, but our work is far from over.”<\/p>\n
City of Clovis Councilmember and Former Mayor Lynne Ashbeck echoed the sentiment, noting the shared responsibility for Fresno County’s success: “The more successful Fresno County is, the more successful all of our cities will be.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO COUNTY, Calif.
