The San Francisco Zoo & Gardens has been \u201cswamped\u201d with orders by frenzied fans trying to get their hands on its safari T-shirt \u2014 after \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d songstresses were caught sporting the swag.<\/p>\n
At least 500 shirts have flown off the shelves since members of the girl group Twice posted a viral clip proudly posing in the gear \u2014 totally depleting the zoo of its stock.<\/p>\n
Vintage-style safari shirts are flying off the racks at the San Francisco Zoo after \u201cTwice\u201d singers were seen sporting the merch. Jeongyeon<\/p>\n
\u201cThanks to you, it\u2019s become a \u2018thing!’\u201d the zoo wrote in a Facebook post this week. <\/a><\/p>\n The insane demand was almost immediate, with calls flooding the zoo moments after \u201cTwice\u201d star Jeongyeon posted a video documenting the visit she made with fellow members Jihyo and Mina last week.<\/p>\n The clip included shots of the zoo\u2019s <\/a>beloved zebras, gorillas and penguins \u2014 but fans zeroed in on the group shot of the crew wearing matching T-shirts.<\/p>\n The $27.99 \u201cvintage safari group scene\u201d depicts a plethora of mammals and birds that call the San Francisco Zoo home and was previously only available at its gift shop.<\/p>\n The K-pop girl group visited the zoo while in town for their world tour. Jeongyeon<\/p>\n The zoo has sold an estimated 100 shirts per day, the zoo told The California Post.<\/p>\n The demand has been so intense that the zoo is now offering the T-shirt in its otherwise limited online gift shop \u2014 and it was put front and center on the webpage.<\/a><\/p>\n The shirts were only available for pre-order on Monday because the zoo needed the chance to boost its stock, as well as add a kids\u2019 size version. <\/p>\n \u201cWe were so excited when Jihyo, Jeongyeon and Mina, members of the K-pop group, TWICE, visited SF Zoo recently, and it looked like they had a great time! We were also surprised and delighted that the group posted images wearing our popular vintage-style SF Zoo t-shirt,\u201d the zoo said. <\/p>\n The trio was apparently taking a reprieve after their nine-member group put on two sold-out shows at the Oakland Arena as part of their \u201cThis Is For\u201d World Tour.<\/p>\n Twice was already popular, but was further catapulted after their song \u201cStrategy\u201d was put on the soundtrack for the smash hit movie \u201cKPop Demon Hunters.\u201d<\/p>\n The sales for the shirt will benefit the zoo\u2019s animal care program. San Francisco Zoo<\/p>\n The K-pop idols\u2019 fashionable choice will end up benefiting the zoo\u2019s more than 2,000 exotic, endangered and rescued animals \u2014 a portion of the sales made on the merch go toward the zoo\u2019s animal care program.<\/p>\n The frenzy comes just months after a similar Taylor Swift-spurred fever raised more than $2.3 million for the Monterey Bay Aquarium.<\/a><\/p>\n Swifties made generous donations to the northern California marine museum after the singer spotted a vintage T-shirt calling for otter conservation at her \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d album release movie back in October. <\/p>\n The aquarium\u00a0heeded the hitmaker\u2019s devoted fans\u00a0and re-released the garment, first printed more than 32 years ago, on Thursday as part of a special campaign to raise $1.3 million \u2013 a goal that was surpassed in less than eight hours.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t
