One man was killed and two others hospitalized after the driver of a Mercedes-Benz struck them as they rode their bicycles in Huntington Beach Monday morning, Oct. 20, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The driver, Amber Calderon, 43, of Long Beach, was arrested about a half-mile away after she stopped her car on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, and possession of narcotics, said Corbin Carson, a Huntington Beach police spokesman.<\/p>\n
Police were called to Pacific Coast Highway, between Beach Boulevard and Newland Street, just past 6:45 a.m. Officers found the Mercedes-Benz and the three bicyclists, Carson said.<\/p>\n
The bicyclists were riding in the bike lane when they were struck, Carson said.<\/p>\n
It was unclear what led up to the crash.<\/p>\n
The one bicyclist died at the scene. The other two were hospitalized with severe injuries.<\/p>\n
Police were investigating whether speed, distracted driving, drugs or alcohol may have factored into the crash.<\/p>\n
