CALGARY \u2014 Beckett Sennecke<\/a>\u2019s first NHL game in Canada was a memorable one.<\/p>\n

The Toronto native\u2019s first overtime goal capped off his first hat trick on Sunday as the Anaheim Ducks<\/a> made it seven consecutive wins with a 4-3 comeback victory over the Calgary Flames<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, it\u2019s awesome. Definitely something I\u2019ll remember,\u201d said the 19-year-old, who played the past three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League\u2019s Oshawa Generals.<\/p>\n

Sennecke leads all rookies in goals with 18, moving ahead of Montreal\u2019s Oliver Kapanen<\/a> (16). His 41 points is two back of the Canadien\u2019s Ivan Demidov<\/a>, who has 11 goals and 32 assists.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just one of those games where everything goes in for you,\u201d said Sennecke. \u201cYou get them every once in a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was the third hat trick by a teenager in the NHL this season. The other two were recorded by San Jose\u2019s Macklin Celebrini<\/a>, who went first overall in the 2024 NHL draft in which Anaheim selected Sennecke at No. 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a special night tonight,\u201d said Ducks coach Joel Quenneville<\/a>. \u201cHe is one of these kids that\u2019s grown as the season\u2019s gone along.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHas the puck a lot, likes to keep it, sometimes a little bit too long, but at the same time, he can make high-end plays. Play recognition is high-end, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

All three goals came on perfectly placed hard shots.<\/p>\n

The first two, which tied it 2-2 in the second period after the Ducks fell behind 2-0 less than eight minutes into the game, came after slick passing sequences with linemates Mikael Granlund<\/a> and Alex Killorn<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The winning goal came on a two-on-one in which Sennecke opted to keep the puck and wire a shot inside the goalpost on Dustin Wolf<\/a>\u2019s glove side.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just like a broken play and then I noticed that they had an extra forward caught down low,\u201d said Sennecke. \u201cI just tried to get my speed up, and then their D took the pass away, so I just decided to shoot it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quenneville says there are a few ingredients that go into the 6-foot-3 right-winger\u2019s shooting ability.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis patience with the puck is part of it as well,\u201d said Quenneville. \u201cHe\u2019s got a real long reach, and his deceptiveness sustaining pucks when it looks like he\u2019s out of the play is part of that. But his release is part of that shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a shot that Lukas Dostal<\/a> faces all the time in practice and relishes it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always have a good competition,\u201d said a smiling Dostal, who had 32 saves to win his sixth game in a row. \u201cBut he\u2019s a hell of a player, has a hell of a shot. I don\u2019t think people even know it, but for being that young, to have a hard shot like that, it\u2019s very impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dostal has also been providing Sennecke with some tips along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like to shoot high, but in practice, he always tells me to start shooting lower and tonight I did,\u201d said Sennecke.<\/p>\n

With his first 27 road games all coming in the U.S., Sennecke\u2019s finally getting a chance to showcase himself north of the border and it will happen a lot more through the end of the season.<\/p>\n

After Monday\u2019s game in Edmonton, the Ducks travel to Vancouver. In mid-March, Anaheim has a four-game trip to Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Then in late March, it\u2019s back to Western Canada again for another three games.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got an extremely bright future and we\u2019d like to see him continue to improve off of these levels, which would put us in a really good position,\u201d added the Ducks\u2019 bench boss.<\/p>\n

In fact, he\u2019s already got Anaheim in good position. Their league-leading seventh multi-goal comeback win of the season has them within one point of the second-place Oilers in the Pacific Division.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t here last year, but from what I hear, it wasn\u2019t the most fun. A couple tough losing streaks,\u201d said Sennecke. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely fun to be on a winning team this year, the guys seem to be loving it, and I\u2019m loving it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reaching the 40-point mark in 52 games makes Sennecke the third-fastest rookie in franchise history to hit that milestone in a season, behind Bobby Ryan<\/a> (46 games in 2008-09) and Trevor Zegras<\/a> (50 games in 2021-22).<\/p>\n

Three days shy of his 20th birthday, he\u2019s also the fourth rookie in Ducks history to record a hat trick and second youngest behind Leo Carlsson<\/a>.<\/p>\n
