{"id":151767,"date":"2026-01-27T16:16:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T16:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/151767\/"},"modified":"2026-01-27T16:16:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T16:16:07","slug":"mountain-lion-located-in-san-francisco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/151767\/","title":{"rendered":"Mountain lion located in San Francisco"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">A young mountain lion that had been roaming San Francisco\u2019s Pacific Heights neighborhood since the weekend was cornered Tuesday morning, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">Animal Care &amp; Control of San Francisco officials said that the big cat was located around 6:30 a.m. in a courtyard between two apartment buildings on California Street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">\u201cAnimal Control Officers located the mountain lion near Lafayette Park early this morning,\u201d spokesperson Angela Yip said Tuesday. \u201cWe are working together to make sure that the public is safe and the animal is in the best possible situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">The San Francisco Police Department, a state game warden and Animal Control officers were on scene. Police closed California Street between Octavia and Laguna streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">The mountain lion was first spotted Sunday night near Lafayette Park. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">\u201cThe subadult mountain lion was caught on video last night near Lafayette Park,\u201d the city\u2019s Animal Care &amp; Control department said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DT_bb3NkrQ5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Instagram post (opens in new tab)<\/a> Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">\u201cExperts have identified this as possibly a young animal about a year old,\u201d the message said. \u201cIt\u2019s likely that the mountain lion got lost while dispersing, is confused, and will soon find its way south and out of San Francisco.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">A video <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/sanfrancisco\/comments\/1qo3xos\/i_saw_the_sf_mountain_lion_this_morning_when_i\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=mweb3x&amp;utm_name=mweb3xcss&amp;utm_term=1&amp;utm_content=share_button\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">shared on Reddit (opens in new tab)<\/a> showed what was allegedly the large wild cat standing still on the front steps of a San Francisco home, gazing toward the street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management <a href=\"https:\/\/manager.everbridge.net\/pub\/2327530287776730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">issued an alert (opens in new tab)<\/a> Monday evening warning residents in the Pacific and Octavia area about the sighting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-block article-body undefined text-left\">Officials advised anyone who encountered the animal to back away slowly and not run.
