FRESNO, Calif (FOX26) \u2014 A man died at Community Regional Medical Center after disarming a Fresno police officer and shooting himself in the head, Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said. <\/p>\n
The incident occurred after the man, identified as a 32-year-old white male from Fresno, was arrested earlier in the day in connection with organized retail theft and impersonation of a police officer.<\/p>\n
Casto said the arrest took place at the Northwest station, where the man resisted officers and was tased four times while attempting to arm himself with a loaded firearm found in a bag he was carrying. <\/p>\n
After being subdued and handcuffed, he was transported to the hospital for treatment, as per department policy, following the use of a Taser.<\/p>\n
While at the hospital, the man attacked an officer, disarmed him, and shot himself in the head. <\/p>\n
Despite immediate life-saving efforts by hospital staff, he was pronounced dead. No other individuals were injured during the incident.<\/p>\n
Authorities revealed that the man had prior law enforcement experience, though details about his history remain unclear. <\/p>\n
