Miller Greenfield, 17, of California took a proud step toward his lifelong dream to protect and serve as he was sworn in as an honorary NYPD police officer for the day Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Greenfield, who lives in Sacramento and battles a rare neurodegenerative disease, beamed as NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch administered the oath of office during a heartwarming ceremony in 1 Police Plaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can definitely protect New York and keep the community safe,\u201d Miller proudly declared.<\/p>\n
The Big Apple cop-for-a-day adventure isn\u2019t Miller\u2019s first law-enforcement escapade as he braves challenges from dystonia deafness syndrome, a disease characterized by hearing loss and movement problems.<\/p>\n
Miller got involved with his own city\u2019s police department through the Make-A-Wish Foundation before undergoing brain surgery in 2019, his dad Johnny Greenfield said.<\/p>\n
The teen\u2019s wish: meet his the Sacramento Police Department\u2019s chief and to become a police officer, the elder Greenfield said.<\/p>\n
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch swore in Greenfield. William Farrington<\/p>\n
\u201cHe stayed involved with our local police ever since, even being promoted up to sergeant and lieutenant, and he continues to stay involved and go to the police station,\u201d the dad said.<\/p>\n
Miller\u2019s ongoing police participation goes hand-in-hand with hard-earned triumphs in his health journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe surprises us every day with how much he\u2019s able to do,\u201d his dad said. <\/p>\n
Greenfield hails from Sacramento, California, and has always wanted to be a police officer. William Farrington<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was in a wheelchair just a couple of years ago, and I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve used the wheelchair \u2013 I can\u2019t remember the last time. So, he gets fatigued and he gets exhausted, and this is certainly going to energize him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tisch and her NYPD officers had a full day planned for Greenfield \u2014 starting with a commissioner\u2019s briefing followed by a tour of the department\u2019s Emergency Services Unit truck and a visit to its Mounted Unit horses and the K9 police dogs.<\/p>\n

He also was scheduled to visit the NYPD\u2019s Joint Operations Center, a room filled with large screens that monitors all police-related incidents throughout the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Even before Greenfield made it to the center, he was already impressed by the technology on display outside Tisch\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s definitely more technology in that one room alone than all of Sacramento\u2019s PD,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Greenfield wrote \u201cNYPD is better than SacPD\u201d in the logbook, much to the delight of cops. William Farrington<\/p>\n
Greenfield said the NYPD visit completely swayed him to become a cop.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve thought about it, but I think now definitely,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The budding police officer also sang the praises of New York\u2019s Finest as he was given a chance to leave a personal message in Tisch\u2019s logbook.<\/p>\n
\u201cNYPD is better than SacPD,\u201d he wrote, much to the joy of cops surrounding him.<\/p>\n
