(KABC) &#8212; A massive pileup involving more than 40 cars shut down part of Highway 58 in Bakersfield on Tuesday, and investigators believe fog may have been a contributing factor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">California Highway Patrol received reports around 8:07 a.m. regarding a multi-vehicle crash blocking all eastbound lanes of State Route 58, east of Tower Line Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Nine people were taken to hospitals, with the victims&#8217; injuries ranging from minor to major, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Investigators believe weather may have been a contributing factor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Witnesses reported extreme dense fog in the area at the time of the crash. A Caltrans camera in the area showed whiteout, foggy conditions close to where the crash happened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">A total of 43 vehicles were involved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Eastbound lanes of State Route 58 were shut down for several hours while an investigation continued.
