The San Jose Sharks<\/a> have apologized after an apparent offensive message seeming to praise Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was displayed on the arena\u2019s scoreboard during the team\u2019s Hispanic heritage celebration on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Video shared with CNN showed the scoreboard displaying: \u201cSJ SHARKS FANS LOVE ICE !! GET \u2018EM BOYZ !\u201d Some fans at SAP Center in San Jose, California, can be heard booing in response.<\/p>\n

Sharks fan Jessica Clark told CNN she and her group were \u201cappalled\u201d by the message. \u201cThey\u2019re my favorite team \u2014 I even have tattoos \u2014 but this was something that should\u2019ve been caught,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on X<\/a> later, the NHL team said: \u201cDuring the first intermission of tonight\u2019s game, an offensively worded message which had been externally submitted was inadvertently displayed on the in-arena scoreboard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sharks Sports & Entertainment said the message did not reflect the organization\u2019s values and had not been detected during its standard review process. The team expressed deep regret and said it is investigating the origin of the message.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred during \u201cLos Tiburones Night,\u201d the Sharks\u2019 ninth annual celebration of \u201cthe team\u2019s commitment to the Bay Area\u2019s vibrant Hispanic community,\u201d according to the club\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Sharks would go on to lose to the Penguins 3-0.<\/p>\n
