FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) \u2014\u00a0It wasn\u2019t uncommon for Tamika Hoy to walk from her parents\u2019 home to her favorite eatery on McKinley and Normal Avenues in central Fresno.<\/p>\n
With each outing, she\u2019d always return home.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019d done that many times before,\u201d said Hoy\u2019s father who did not disclosure his identity to protect his privacy.<\/p>\n
But this time was different.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was coming back home and that\u2019s when it happened at 2:15,\u201d said Hoy\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
Fresno Police arrived shortly after 2 o\u2019clock Thursday afternoon to assist with a medical call of a woman lying in the alleyway on Normal Avenue and Mayfair Boulevard in Central Fresno.<\/p>\n
\u201c25-year-old Tamika Hoy down in the alleyway suffering from what appeared to be an apparent gunshot wound to her upper head,\u201d said Lt. Brian Valles with Fresno Police.<\/p>\n
Hoy was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition.<\/p>\n
When Hoy\u2019s parents arrived, her mother demanded to see her daughter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey let me in and I just broke down and cried,\u201d said Hoy\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
Tamika died from her injuries just three days later.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey took my child away from me,\u201d said her mother.<\/p>\n
Fresno Police updated the public days later and said the biggest challenge investigators face in Hoy\u2019s case is receiving limited cooperation.<\/p>\n
\u201cDetectives have been in that area since Thursday, January 22nd. We\u2019ve received very little assistance from any witnesses in that incident,\u201d said Lt. Valles.<\/p>\n
Police revealed while Hoy was walking through the alleyway she was approached by an unknown amount of individuals and was shot.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt hurts so much. They just don\u2019t know they ripped my heart out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before Hoy walked out the door that day, the mother and daughter exchanging what would become their final embrace.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hugged my baby and I told her I loved her. She hugged me back and said, \u2018Mama, I love you, too,\u2019 and that\u2019s the last words I spoke to my daughter,\u201d said Hoy\u2019s mother.<\/p>\n
Fresno Police says it will continue to canvass the area for any surveillance footage as investigators search for a possible motive.<\/p>\n
