The Fresno Police Department will conduct DUI patrols Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., targeting drivers suspected of driving under the influence.<\/p>\n
Police reminded the public that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol, noting that some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs can interfere with driving and warning drivers to follow usage directions and read labels carefully.<\/p>\n
While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal, police said.<\/p>\n
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended driver\u2019s license, according to the department.<\/p>\n
Funding for the patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n
