Or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/newsletters\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sign up<\/a>\u00a0for our Eat See Do newsletter to get it in your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>Brace yourself this weekend and next as three performances electrify the Carpenter Performing Arts Center stage \u2014 the Miles Electric Band, guitarist Charo, and Broadway performer and actor Mandy Patinkin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First up this Friday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. is the Miles Electric Band, celebrating Miles Davis\u2019 centennial with what the Center describes as a \u201cpowerful homage\u201d to the iconic jazz trumpeter.<\/p>\n<p>Davis is perhaps best known for his 1959 album \u201cKind of Blue\u201d \u2014 widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential jazz records of all time \u2014 though his decades-long career since then embraced a variety of forward-looking innovative sounds, including electronic music.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born in May 1926, Davis would have turned 100 this year had he not passed away from a brain aneurysm in 1991, shortly after performing a career-overview concert at a jazz festival in Paris and a birthday celebration concert at the Hollywood Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>An all-star ensemble at the Carpenter Center on Friday features Emmy and Grammy Award-winning producer and drummer Vince Wilburn Jr., along with Darryl Jones, Robert Irving III, Munyungo Jackson, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Antoine Roney, Keyon Harrold, DJ Logic and others.<\/p>\n<p>Together, these Miles Davis alumni and next-generation innovators will create, according to the Center, a \u201cremarkable fusion of past and present\u201d that \u201cexpand[s] the boundaries of jazz while honoring the innovations of Miles Davis\u2019s electric period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guitarist Charo then takes the stage Saturday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m., bringing \u201cvivacious humor, astounding flamenco guitar talent and sparkling stage presence,\u201d according to the Carpenter Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born and musically trained in Spain, Charo became a fixture on American television sitcoms and variety shows in the 1970s, known for her vibrant costuming and performance style, big hair and signature phrase \u201ccuchi-cuchi.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"788\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/2-charo-001524-tdfzjy3s-602024-K6OBoKSV-788x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-88094\"  \/>Charo, performing at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Jan. 31. Photo courtesy of the Center.<\/p>\n<p>The Center describes Charo as a virtuoso guitarist, singer, composer, actress and comedienne who has been voted \u201cBest Flamenco Guitarist\u201d twice by Guitar Magazine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She released the album \u201cFantastico! The International Remixes\u201d in 2020, a series of dance tracks played in gay clubs around the world, and has guest-starred multiple times on the show \u201cRuPaul\u2019s Drag Race\u201d and also performed on \u201cDancing with the Stars\u201d in 2017 and appeared on the talk show \u201cThe View\u201d in 2022.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharo is an American music and pop culture icon who has entertained millions during her stellar 50-year career,\u201d the Center says. \u201cShe also entertains thousands of her gay fans in Pride festivals all over the country and international fans at music venues around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And next weekend, Broadway performer and Hollywood actor Mandy Patinkin brings his formidable singing to the Carpenter Center on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. in a \u201cBeing Alive\u201d concert.<\/p>\n<p>With Adam Ben-David on piano, Patinkin will offer a \u201cdazzling musical celebration of life,\u201d according to the Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMandy Patinkin electrifies our stage in an uplifting evening filled with beloved Broadway and classic American tunes \u2014 including favorites by Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, and Harry Chapin,\u201d the Center says.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning his career on Broadway in 1980 \u2014 winning a Tony Award as Che in \u201cEvita\u201d and Tony nomination for \u201cSunday in the Park with George\u201d \u2014Patinkin has also acted in films such as \u201cThe Princess Bride\u201d and \u201cYentyl\u201d and television series such as \u201cHomeland,\u201d \u201cCriminal Minds,\u201d \u201cThe Good Fight\u201d and \u201cChicago Hope,\u201d for which he won an Emmy Award.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"536\" height=\"538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/3-mandy-patinkin-633392-oovymge5-869277-Dsgu7M9e.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-88096\"  \/>Mandy Patinkin, performing at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 7.
