{"id":155294,"date":"2026-01-29T19:15:30","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T19:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/155294\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T19:15:30","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T19:15:30","slug":"meta-50m-investment-advances-capitol-mall-redevelopment-for-sacramento-state-housing-facilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/155294\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta $50M investment advances Capitol Mall redevelopment for Sacramento State housing, facilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Newsom and Meta announced a $50M project to transform underused state buildings into affordable housing and campus facilities for Sacramento State.<\/p>\n<p>SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 Governor Gavin Newsom and Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csus.edu\/president\/university-communications\/media-advisories.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">announced a $50 million investment<\/a> to redevelop three underused state-owned buildings on Capitol Mall into a mixed-use district for California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<p>The project will repurpose the Employment Development Department headquarters at 800 Capitol Mall, the EDD Solar Building at 751 N Street and the State Personnel Board Building at 801 Capitol Mall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meta\u2019s contribution will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csus.edu\/president\/university-communications\/media-advisories.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">fund preliminary work<\/a>, including abatement, demolition and entitlement processes, to prepare the sites for development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project helps build a vibrant downtown district that supports students, businesses, and economic growth,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cMaking sure students can afford to live where they learn is essential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc10.com\/article\/news\/local\/sacramento\/downtown-housing-sac-state\/103-6394f81f-25ba-4291-98aa-b70146bc134c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">redevelopment is expected<\/a> to include:<\/p>\n<p>Affordable housing for CSUS students, faculty and staff, alongside market-rate units to support downtown revitalization<\/p>\n<p>New campus facilities, including a School of Public Affairs, classrooms, educational spaces and an Artificial Intelligence Center for a new bachelor\u2019s degree in AI Business Management.<\/p>\n<p>Cultural amenities, such as a performing arts and music venue serving both the university and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p>A boutique hotel to host visiting students, faculty, research partners and families, supporting downtown tourism<\/p>\n<p>Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company is \u201cexcited to work with Governor Newsom and Sacramento State to drive innovation in our state capital\u201d and noted the project will help strengthen communities while supporting the next generation of leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The project is still in its early master planning phase. Next steps include design development, building testing and an environmental review under the <a href=\"https:\/\/lci.ca.gov\/ceqa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>DGS Director Ana M.
