Waymo is starting to take San Francisco passengers to the airport.<\/p>\n

The Alphabet<\/a>-owned company said in a blog post<\/a> Thursday that it is opening up San Francisco International Airport access to a select number of customers, and will gradually welcome all riders over the coming months.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pickups and drop-offs will initially take place at the airport’s rental car center, and will eventually expand to additional locations like terminals. Waymo began driving passengers on freeways<\/a> late last year, a necessary step to move into airport transportation. <\/p>\n

“Serving rides to and from San Francisco International Airport delivers one of the most requested features for our riders and further deepens our relationship with the city,” Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said in a blog post<\/a>. “With millions traveling in for major events this year, we look forward to meeting the growing demand for reliable, fully autonomous rides.”<\/p>\n

SFO marks Waymo’s third major airport, as the company moves further into territory that’s been dominated in recent years by Uber and Lyft. Waymo currently provides pickups and drop-offs at San Jose Mineta International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International airport.<\/p>\n
