LONG BEACH, Calif.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0No. 7\u00a0Long Beach State will head to their third tournament of the season, driving south to La Jolla for the traditional Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego.\u00a0The Beach will play the first of four games at the Triton Invitational\u00a0against Pomona-Pitzer on January 30 at Noon.<\/p>\n
Long Beach State (5-2) faced tough competition at the Brigitte Donner Daws Memorial Tournament hosted by California, falling to No. 1 Stanford, 23-11, and No. 3 UCLA, 18-7, while defeating conference\u00a0foe\u00a0No. 14\u00a0UC Davis, 15-6, behind a strong second half.<\/p>\n
Leading the Beach on the weekend was senior Lucy\u00a0Miszweski, who scored seven goals and added three assists.\u00a0Miszweski\u00a0also had a game-high seven goals in their exhibition against the USA Academy. Freshman Polina Synytsia<\/a>\u00a0recorded a career-high 11 saves in the win against the Aggies and has 32 in her first season for LBSU. Elisa Portillo<\/a> leads the Beach on the season with 22 goals and 12 assists.<\/p>\n At the Triton Invitational, the Beach will face Pomona-Pitzer (0-2) in the opening round. The Sagehens started their season at home, hosting No. 12\u00a0UC San Diego and Azusa Pacific, and losing both games by a small margin, dropping 14-13 against the Tritons and 10-9 against the Cougars. Leading the team is Paityn Richardson with six goals, while Mia Amberger adds five and a team-high three assists.<\/p>\n Ball drops at Noon for the matchup against Pomona-Pitzer on January 30. The Beach will play either No. 9\u00a0Loyola Marymount or No. 19\u00a0San Diego State on the following day.
